Leadership Team

Based in Baltimore, MD, Brightview Senior Living, LLC opened its first senior living community in Maryland in 1999. Today, Brightview offers over forty-five communities in eight states - Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia. The communities include Senior Independent Living, Assisted Living, Dementia Care, and Enhanced Care options.

Brightview Senior Living - Arnie Richman

Arnold Richman - Co-Chair

Co-Chair. Arnie joined The Shelter Group/Brightview Senior Living in 1995, where he led the effort to create Brightview Senior Living. Prior to joining the company, he spent 25 years as a partner of Meridian Healthcare, a privately held company that developed and managed nursing homes and related ancillary businesses. At Meridian, he was directly responsible for the management and operations of health care facilities, serving as Vice President of Operations, Executive Vice President and Chairman of the company. He has served as President of the Board of Trustees of The Park School as well as Vice Chairman of the Board and Campaign Chair of The Associated-Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.  Arnie’s current civic involvement includes serving on the boards of Johns Hopkins Medicine, The Institute for Christian and Jewish Studies, The Baltimore Community Foundation, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Baltimore Equitable Society and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Brightview Senior Living CEO - Marilynn Duker

Marilynn Duker - Co-Chair

Co-Chair. Marilynn joined the company, then known as The Shelter Group, in 1982, a little over a decade later, she helped found Brightview, bringing to it extensive experience in development. She began her career as a developer and has since been involved in every phase of the company’s operations and growth. Marilynn serves on the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing (NIC) Operator Advisory Board, the Mercy Health Systems Board of Trustees, the University of Maryland at Baltimore BioPark Corporation Board of Directors, and The College of Wooster Board of Trustees. She is a member of the Committee of 200. She is also a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee LEADERship Program. Marilynn was recognized as the Loyola University of Maryland Sellinger School Business Leader of the Year in 2019. In 2020, The Daily Record named her one of five Influential Marylanders in Business. Prior to joining the company, Marilynn served as a Presidential Intern at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She is a graduate of The College of Wooster and holds a Master's Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Doug Dollenberg

Doug Dollenberg - CEO and President

CEO and President. Doug joined Brightview Senior Living in 2017.  As CEO and President, Doug is responsible for directing strategies, operations, and long-term growth of the business. Brightview’s development and management companies. He began his career as an engineer at Whitman, Requardt, and Associates before joining McKinsey & Company, where he worked across many different businesses and industries. Doug previously recently served on the executive leadership team at TESSCO in Hunt Valley, Maryland. He led the commercial product management organization for this value-added distributor of wireless products and solutions. He graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Brightview Senior Living - Jeff Hettleman

Jeffrey Hettleman - Executive Vice President & CFO

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Jeff leads the finance, accounting and risk management operations across Brightview Senior Living. Prior to joining The Shelter Group in 1994, Jeff was an attorney at the law firm of Piper and Marbury in Baltimore, Maryland where he specialized in structuring and closing real estate and corporate transactions. His community involvement includes serving on the Mayor of Baltimore’s Workgroup on Homelessness, as well as the Boards of Directors of AFYA Baltimore Inc. and the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition. Jeff graduated from Haverford College and holds a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Brightview Senior Living - David Carliner

David Carliner - Executive Vice President

Executive Vice President. Since joining The Shelter Group/Brightview Senior Living in 2002, David’s responsibilities have included development and acquisitions of all the company’s product lines. David began his career at Meridian Healthcare, where he ultimately oversaw all aspects of new facility development. During his 12-year tenure, Meridian grew from 20 to over 40 facilities. Following the acquisition of Meridian by Genesis Health Ventures, David worked with New Enterprise Associates to form Elder Health, now called Bravo Health, a Medicare HMO. The Company serves almost 400,000 people today with revenues of approximately $1.6B. David has served as a Commissioner of the Baltimore City Commission on Aging and as President of CHAI, a community based organization focused on supporting seniors in a variety of residential settings. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Connecticut College, a Masters in Health Service Administration from The George Washington University, and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Andrea Griesmar

Andrea Griesmar - Senior Vice President of Operations

Senior Vice President of Operations. In her role, Andrea leads a talented group of subject matter experts and regional support teams who provide direction to Brightview communities in the areas of clinical care, dementia care, dining services, business operations, learning and development, resident programming, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. In addition, she oversees human resources, champions internal talent development, and leads the organization’s efforts around diversity, equity, inclusion and access for all. Prior to joining The Shelter Group in 2007, Andrea worked for more than 20 years in senior leadership roles in the financial services industry. Andrea serves as Board President for the South Baltimore Learning Center and is an active volunteer with Baltimore’s Locust Point Community Association where she is a proud resident. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Purdue University.

Brightview Senior Living - Brian Engle

Brian Engle - Executive Vice President Operations

Executive Vice President of Operations. Brian is responsible for the management and overall operations of all of the Brightview communities. He joined the company in 1993, with a role in accounting and finance before directing Shelter Properties’ Senior Housing division. Since the inception of Brightview Senior Living, he has been involved in nearly every phase of Brightview's operations and growth, serving as a Regional Director and Vice President before assuming his current role. Brian earned his undergraduate degree from Gannon University and continued his education with graduate courses at the University of Baltimore’s business school as well as completing a Senior Living Operations Management course from Johns Hopkins University.

Julie Masiello

Julie Masiello - Senior Vice President

Senior Vice President of Technology and Marketing. Julie provides strategic direction for the technology, marketing, and sales teams, including all customer facing and internal technologies, communications, tools, and resources. Prior to joining Brightview Senior Living in 2016, she held marketing leadership roles in the insurance and banking industries, including positions at Transamerica, Arch Insurance Group, and Citibank. Julie graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Business and International Relations.
