Brightview Senior Living Named One of the 2019 Best Workplaces for Women by FORTUNE and Great Place to Work®

Best Workplaces for Women

Baltimore MD, Sept. 19, 2019 – Brightview Senior Living, a leader in senior living that builds, owns and operates more than 40 senior living communities along the east coast, is thrilled to announce it has been recognized as one of the 2019 Best Workplaces for Women by FORTUNE and Great Place to Work®. Brightview is ranked No. 48 and is the only senior living company on the nationwide list, which features such notable workplaces such as Hilton, Wegman’s and Cisco.  The list is based on anonymous survey feedback representing more than 4.6 million U.S. employees from Great Place to Work-Certified companies across all industries. The recognition comes on the heels of Brightview Senior Living being named the Number One Best Workplace for Aging Services 2019.

“At Brightview Senior Living, we believe that when we can create a workplace where our associates are excited to come each day, that spirit and genuine happiness will trickle down to our residents—creating an ecosystem of positivity. The women who work for Brightview are at the heart of this ecosystem.  To be recognized with a Best Workplaces for Women award is a true honor and a testament to our dedication to giving women the resources to grow and thrive.”
Marilynn Duker, Brightview senior living - ceo

This award is especially poignant because CEO Marilynn Duker was the first associate to join Brightview’s predecessor company in 1982. Since then, she has cultivated a culture of inclusivity that has paved the way for other female associates to rise in the ranks. Teams in the company with female leaders at the helm include sales, marketing, technology, clinical care, resident programming, accounting and finance, learning and development, and regional operations. In fact, Brightview’s female associates make up an incredible 79 percent of the company’s workforce.

Brightview female associates completed a 60-question Trust Index™ survey about the workplace and how fairly their experiences rank to men’s reports of the same workplaces. This survey measured the extent to which women report their organizations to create a Great Place to Work For All™. Response patterns were then identified and analyzed, and then divided into two categories of large and small businesses. To be considered, companies need to employ at least 50 women, at least 20 percent of their non-executive managers need to be female, and at least one of their executives needs to be female. “Getting a confirmation that the women who work for Brightview Senior Living feel invested and valued is what it’s all about for me,” Duker added.

“These winning companies are thriving because women have an equal seat at every table where critical decisions are made,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Organizations like Brightview Senior Living know that creating a great workplace where everyone can succeed regardless of gender is not just the right thing to do, but a must-do if you want to be the very best of everything in the marketplace.”

The Best Workplaces for Women list is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work and FORTUNE based on employee feedback from Great Place to Work-Certified™ organizations.
