Baltimore MD, Jan. 28, 2020 – Brightview Senior Living, a pioneer in senior living that builds, owns and operates more than 40 communities along the east coast, including seven in the Boston region, announces today it has been recognized as one of the 2019 winners of the Healthiest Employers® of Massachusetts. The nationally recognized awards program is powered by the Springbuk Health Intelligence Platform and presented by Boston Business Journal.
Applicants to the Healthiest Employers awards program were evaluated across six key categories: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analytics. Companies that applied to the awards program were ranked according to the proprietary Healthiest Employers Index, a 1-100 rubric for employee wellbeing programming.
“At Brightview Senior Living we are honored to be recognized as one of the Healthiest Employers in the Boston region. We are truly proud to say we practice what we preach. Our dynamic SPICE wellness model, which stands for spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional, emphasizes key elements we identify as part of a multi-dimensional wellness approach for both residents and associates. For us, wellness is beyond physical activity and a healthy diet. We strive to provide support using this holistic strategy and it’s exciting to see our associates experience meaningful outcomes as a result.”Jessica Sheffield, Brightview senior living - Wellness Manager
Brightview equips associates with various incentives and resources that support the SPICE model in addition to traditional workplace benefits. Associates receive a stipend toward exercise and weight management programs and health, lifestyle and nutrition coaching programs are also available free of charge. For spiritual and mental needs, the company administers both grief and associate program assistant counseling, meditation classes and bereavement leave. Socially, Brightview hosts potluck lunches, offsite company gatherings and celebrations, as well as luncheons with senior leaders. From a financial perspective, Brightview participates in a 401(k) match program and provides employees with individual retirement planning sessions with an investment advisor.
The success of Brightview’s SPICE initiative is measured through healthcare cost trends, participation rates for annual physicals and biometric screenings, compliance with suggested preventive screenings, effectiveness of chronic condition management, wellness program participation and associate satisfaction.
“Our wellness culture helps us address the challenges typical of our industry including high turnover and caregiver fatigue. As we enter a new decade, we look forward to continuing to evolve our workplace in order to remain on the cutting edge of progressive and effective health benefit offerings,” Sheffield added.
