Joan's face lit up when she saw the T-shirts bearing her design - a beautifully painted butterfly in colorful pink and purple hues.
And to be worn for such an important day, a walk to raise money to find a cure for Alzheimer's touched the hearts of residents, families, friends, associates and their fellow walkers.
Her artwork is inspiring.
"Joan leads a full life in Wellspring Village," explains Ryan Krippendorf, a Wellspring Village Associate. "She enjoys painting, singing, baking - all of the programs offered - and contributes in meaningful ways."
"We work together to create an atmosphere of acceptance, cooperation and engagement," adds Executive Director Mike Reed. "We create joy in Wellspring Village for residents and families despite the challenges people living with dementia face."
