Nancy Maina, Brightview Severna Park’s Senior Health Services Director, and Keri Dunlop, Health Services Director at Brightview Catonsville, were announced as 2024 McKnight’s Women of Distinction Award Winners. The McKnight’s Women of Distinction Program recognizes and honors standouts in skilled nursing, senior living, and home care.
Nancy has been with Brightview since 2014 and has made a name for herself through her strong work ethic and leadership. She has been announced as one of the veteran long-term care leaders in the Veterans VIPs Class of 2024 McKnight’s Women of Distinction Program. The Veteran VIP Category honors women who have more than fifteen years of experience in senior living, skilled nursing, or home care and who have had a tremendous impact in their field.
This isn’t the first time Nancy has been recognized for her work ethic, leadership skills, and compassionate caregiving. She was most recently honored as a 2023 Brightview Coach of the Year. In her six years as Health Services Director at Brightview Severna Park, the community has had a 96% retention rate of Wellness Nurses. The community also ranked in the top 5% for the lowest number of deficiencies in the state of Maryland. Most importantly, Nancy mentored and created succession plans for over 22 front-line associates, resulting in promotions to Department Head positions, Senior/Lead Technician roles, Medication Technicians, and Nursing student graduates.
Aside from all her outstanding accomplishments, Nancy is an amazing nurse, coach, and friend to all her residents and associates. She takes the time to give residents the highest level of care while creating relationships with their families. She is highly praised for having a strong concern and care for everyone at Brightview, no matter who they are. Nancy’s praise and recognition is a direct testament to her heart for service. Whether it’s performing clinical assessments or just sitting down with residents during a meal, she goes above and beyond to provide the best care possible.
Keri has been with Brightview since 2012, when she joined the Bel Air community as a Resident Assistant. Keri has been announced as one of the 15 Rising Stars in the McKnight’s Women of Distinction Program Class of 2024. Women either 40 years or younger, or with less than 15 years of experience in senior living, skilled nursing, or home care fields are eligible for the Rising Star category. She has earned this through her exceptional commitment at Brightview. Keri was also recognized as a 2023 Brightview Caregiver of the Year.
Keri’s journey of discovering her passion for nursing and working with seniors is a true testament to her commitment and dedication to the senior living industry. She worked diligently to complete an RN/BSN program while continuing to work at Brightview Bel Air, all during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of her development plan, Keri earned her State of Maryland Delegating Nurse certification to support and learn more from the current Health Services Director at Brightview Bel Air. She is taking on more assessments and supervisory work on weekends and during the evenings. Keri is excited to be on a development plan through Brightview’s BADGE Elevate program and was recently promoted to Health Services Director at Brightview Catonsville.
Keri’s big personality helps form strong relationships with associates and residents, as well as their families. She is praised for the comfort she gives the community and for effortlessly putting a smile on anyone’s face. Her can-do attitude is contagious, while providing support and feedback to her team to be the best they can be. Keri attributes her experience working through all the caregiving positions as a key to her success as a leader. Whether it’s providing care or dancing with the residents, she is absolutely adored and deserving of such recognition.
