Brightview Senior Living is committed to building and operating sustainable, healthy communities to enhance the well-being of our residents, families, and associates. Brightview’s Green Building Design Standards use LEED as a guiding principle to help improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and create healthier places for people to live, work, and play.
To help Celebrate Earth Day 2025, our team is proud to share that Brightview Holmdel and Brightview Alexandria are the newest communities under development, and both are scheduled to be move-in ready by this summer!
Brightview Holmdel
This community is located in Holmdel, New Jersey – just outside of New York City – and will offer 180 apartment homes to new residents interested in independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It was designed with an abundance of engaging outdoor spaces and amenities to encourage social interaction and community engagement to support various wellness programs. There will also be a dedicated community garden for memory care residents to enjoy.
Brightview Alexandria
Close to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, this new community will deliver 167 apartments with a mix of independent living, assisted living, and memory care places to call home. The development was designed and is being built to an elevated green building standard, pursuing LEED Gold under the LEED for Homes v4: Multifamily Mid-Rise program.
“Brightview is dedicated to designing beautiful, vibrant communities for our residents and associates that are also responsive to addressing the needs of the planet. Brightview Holmdel and Brightview Alexandria are proud examples of that design, and we are excited for residents to move in and engage in an environment that benefits all.” -David Holland, Vice President, Brightview Senior Living.
Sustainable and Healthy Living Features
Both new communities have been designed with a number of shared sustainable and healthy strategies top of mind. Below are several of these highlights to illustrate Brightview’s commitment to best practices for renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and resident wellness.
Renewable Energy
Holmdel and Alexandria will be Brightview’s 4th and 5th on-site solar PV installations since the first solar project was completed at a new development in 2023. Brightview has committed to installing more than 2MW of on-site solar PV systems across multiple properties by 2026 and has a goal to install solar at every newly developed community, where possible. Holmdel will include an 189kW rooftop system with over 320 solar panels, and Alexandria will have a 236kW system with over 500 panels – providing locally made, clean energy directly to the communities. Combined, these two solar installations will generate over 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This is equivalent to planting nearly 340 acres of U.S. forests annually.
Energy Efficiency
- Energy-efficient lighting and appliances ensure better operations and a reduced carbon footprint.
- Individual lighting and climate controls improve resident comfort.
- Electric vehicle charging stations will be available to promote alternative transportation.
Waste Reduction and Water Conservation
- Native and adaptive plantings promote biodiversity and water-efficient landscaping.
- Efficient indoor water fixtures reduce potable water consumption by the community.
- Easy-to-use recycling collection areas allows residents to help our communities divert waste from the landfill.
Resident Wellness
- Walking paths around the property to encourage physical activity and time outdoors.
- Vibrant outdoor courtyards and open spaces allow residents to enjoy fresh air and natural surroundings, reducing stress and enhancing mental health.
- Connection to the outdoors and harvesting sunlight is offered by designing common areas and apartment spaces with natural daylight and views.
- Eco-friendly cleaning products help reduce air pollution and provide a healthier indoor environment.
- Engaging and educational activities are delivered through Brightview’s SPICE Programwhich focuses on five holistic elements - Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Cultural, and Emotional. Residents enjoy a daily calendar full of enriching and inspiring activities, important for the well-being of people of all ages.
