Maintaining good balance is one of the most important ways seniors can protect their independence, health, and confidence. Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, often resulting in broken bones, hospital visits, or long recovery periods. Even when a fall doesn’t cause a serious injury, it can affect a person’s confidence and make them hesitant to stay active.
Why Balance Matters
-
Falls are common: According to the CDC, one in four adults over age 65 experiences a fall each year.
-
Falls can be detrimental: Falls are the leading cause of hip fractures and traumatic brain injuries in seniors.
-
Falls affect confidence: Many older adults reduce their activity after a fall, which can lead to loss of muscle strength, further increasing fall risk.
The good news? Balance can be improved at any age through simple exercises and healthy daily habits. By practicing balance exercises and adopting fall-prevention strategies, seniors can stay active and enjoy life more fully.
